Split a video into parts, free and online

Cut one long video into several shorter clips, back to back. Choose how long each part should be, check the plan on the timeline, and download every part. It all runs in your browser, so your video stays on your device.

How to split a video into parts

  1. 1

    Open your video

Drop an MP4, MOV or WebM file on “Drop your video here”, or tap “Choose file”. The video is not uploaded to any server.

  2. 2

Choose the length of each part

Under “Split into clips”, tap one of the suggested lengths or type any number of seconds. “Full video” keeps it as one clip.

  3. 3

    Check the parts

The timeline shows every part. Tap a part to leave it out of “Download all”. The live preview shows how each clip will look.

  4. 4

    Download

Tap “Download all videos” or “Download all as ZIP”, or use “Download” on a single clip. On a phone, tap “Save to gallery” to put the clips in Photos or Gallery.

Choosing a part length

Shorter parts are easier to post and quicker to watch, but you get more files. Longer parts mean fewer files to manage.

If you are posting to an app with a time limit, check the limit in the app first, then type that number of seconds. Each part will be exactly that long, except the last one, which holds what is left. If the leftover is under 1 second, it is joined to the last clip instead of becoming a tiny file.

Making a series flow

When people watch parts one after another, a hard cut can feel sudden. “Overlap between parts” repeats the end of each part (0.5, 1 or 2 seconds) at the start of the next one, so viewers don't miss a word.

In the “Text & logo” tab, “Add a part number to each clip” writes “Part 1/5”, “Part 2/5” and so on onto the video. The numbers count only the clips you keep.

Split vs trim

Splitting keeps the whole video and cuts it into many parts. Trimming removes the start or end and keeps one piece. You can do both: set a trim range first, and only that range is split into parts.

Tips for splitting videos

  • Skip parts you don't need on the timeline. “Download all videos” then becomes “Download N videos”.
  • Need vertical clips for Reels or TikTok? Open “Resize & rotate” and choose “Reels” before you download.
  • Files are named like name_clip_01.mp4, name_clip_02.mp4, so they stay in order. Change the start of the name under “File names” in the “Export” tab.
  • The first export downloads the video engine (about 30 MB) once. Later exports start faster.
  • On a phone, keep the tab open while clips process. Phones are slower than computers.
