Resize a video for Reels, TikTok and Instagram
Turn any video into a vertical 9:16 video, a 4:5 Instagram post or a 1:1 square. Keep the whole picture with a blurred or colored background, or fill the frame and crop. It all happens in your browser.
How to resize a video
- 1
Choose your video
Drop it on “Drop your video here” or tap “Choose file”. MP4, MOV and WebM work. The video stays on your device.
- 2
Pick a format
“Reels” (9:16) with a blurred background is already selected. You can switch to “Instagram Post” (4:5), “Facebook Post” (1:1) or “Original”.
- 3
Choose Fit or Fill
“Fit” keeps the whole picture and fills the empty space with “Blur” or a color. “Fill” covers the frame and crops the edges; use “Crop position” to keep the important part.
- 4
Download
With “Full video” selected under “Split into clips” (the default), you get one resized MP4. Tap “Download”, or “Save to gallery” on a phone.
Which size for which platform
“Reels” makes a 1080×1920 vertical video (9:16). This is the shape of TikTok, Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, Stories and YouTube Shorts.
“Instagram Post” makes a 1080×1350 video (4:5), which takes up more of the feed than a square. “Facebook Post” makes a 1080×1080 square (1:1). “Original” keeps the size of your source video.
Fit vs Fill
“Fit” shows the whole picture. A wide video placed in a 9:16 frame leaves space above and below it. “Blur” fills that space with a blurred copy of the same video, so it looks full. You can also pick a solid color from the swatches or any custom color.
“Fill” makes the video cover the whole frame, so the sides (or top and bottom) are cut off. Use it when the subject is in the middle and you want no borders. “Crop position” lets you keep the left, center or right part (or top, center or bottom for tall videos).
Sideways video?
If your phone video is lying on its side, tap “Rotate left” or “Rotate right” on the same tab first. Rotation is applied before resizing, so the upright video then fits the new frame correctly.
Tips for resizing
- Watch the live preview before you export. It shows exactly how the resized video will look.
- “Blur” usually looks better than black bars when a wide video goes into a vertical frame.
- Use “Fill” for talking-head videos where the person is in the center.
- Long video for Reels or Stories? Choose a length under “Split into clips” on the “Trim & split” tab to get several parts in the new size.
- Choose “Smaller file” on the “Export” tab if you need to send the video over chat apps.
Frequently asked questions
Choose “Reels” (9:16) and “Fit” with “Blur”. The whole wide video sits in the middle of a vertical frame, with a blurred copy of the video filling the top and bottom.
