Speed up or slow down a video
Make a video faster or turn it into slow motion. Pick a speed from 0.5× to 2×, preview it and download an MP4. The sound keeps its normal pitch.
How to change the speed of a video
- 1
Choose your video
Drop it on “Drop your video here” or tap “Choose file”. The “Trim & split” tab opens for you.
- 2
Pick a speed
Under “Speed”, choose 0.5× or 0.75× for slow motion, or 1.25×, 1.5× or 2× to speed it up. “Normal” goes back to the original speed.
- 3
Trim if you want
Use the “Trim video” slider to keep only the part you need, for example just the moment you want in slow motion.
- 4
Download
With “Full video” selected under “Split into clips” (the default), you get one MP4 at the new speed. Tap “Download”, or “Save to gallery” on a phone.
What happens to the sound
When you speed up or slow down, the original sound changes speed with the picture, but it keeps its normal pitch. Voices do not sound like chipmunks at 2× or very deep at 0.5×.
If you add music on the “Music” tab, the music plays at its normal speed over the faster or slower video.
How speed changes the length
At 2× a video becomes half as long. At 0.5× it becomes twice as long. The clip lengths shown on the clip cards are already the new lengths, after the speed change.
This helps when a video is a little too long for a platform. A 1.25× speed makes it 20% shorter without cutting anything.
Tips for speed changes
- Trim to the exact moment first, then use 0.5× for a short slow-motion clip.
- 1.25× or 1.5× works well for tutorials and talks where you want to save time.
- Videos recorded at a high frame rate look smoother in slow motion.
- Want only part of the video slower? Trim to that part. The whole exported clip uses one speed.
- Add music on the “Music” tab to cover a slow-motion clip; it plays at normal speed.
